A LEADING MASTERS DEGREE IN ECONOMICS
We offer a one-year research-focused MSc in Economics running from September to August, with an optional summer school for those without a specialist economics background.
The MSc covers the main subjects of microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics (statistics) at an advanced level and aims to give students the technical ability to communicate in the language of modern economic research.
Our in-depth programme will equip you with the tools a professional economist needs to work in government or in international organisations. It also serves as a foundation for PhD study in Scotland or elsewhere. Specialisations in econometrics and finance are available.
The Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics (SGPE) is a collaboration between eight top Scottish universities. Hosted and awarded by the University of Edinburgh, ranked amongst the world’s top 50 universities (currently ranked 20th in the 2020 QS World Rankings) you’ll play an active role in Scotland’s economic community taking part in a busy programme of workshops, seminars and events.
Application deadline: 30 June 2021.

Entrance requirements
To be eligible for the MSc Economics you need a strong grounding in Economics at the undergraduate level – at least a good UK 2:1 or its international equivalent. Students who have high grades in degrees in mathematics, statistics or actuarial science will also be considered.
We offer a four-week summer school course for those who didn’t take or specialise in Economics in their undergraduate degree, but who have a strong technical background, such as a very good degree in science, engineering or maths. The summer school covers the main subjects to an intermediate level. It runs every August; students who successfully pass the exams can immediately proceed onto the MSc in September.
